Procedure
The following is a detailed description of the Endodontic Treatment.
Dr. Bento Mosca will examine and digitally x-ray the tooth and surrounding area. She will explain the cause and necessity of root canal therapy to you.
Local anesthetic will be administered. Once the tooth is numb a small protective sheet called a “Dental Rubber Dam” is placed over the area to isolate the tooth. A small opening is made on the biting surface of the tooth to access the pulp.
The inflamed or infected pulp is then removed using very small instruments to carefully and painlessly clean and shape the inside of the tooth.
After that portion of treatment is complete, the root canals are filled with a bio compatible material called gutta-percha. The gutta-percha is placed with an adhesive cement to ensure complete sealing of the root canals. A temporary filling is placed to close the opening.
After the final visit with Dr. Bento Mosca, you must return to your dentist to have a crown or other restoration placed on the tooth to protect and restore it to full function. Dr. Bento Mosca will usually schedule a six month follow-up examination to evaluate healing.
For the first few days after treatment, your tooth may feel sensitive, especially if there was pain or infection before the procedure. Dr. Bento Mosca will give you specific instructions to follow after your treatment to minimize any discomfort.
